IWCA Uganda Chapter Newsletter – Issue 3, September 2019

Overview

This issue highlights capacity building, trade engagement, and market expansion efforts aimed at strengthening women’s participation in Uganda’s coffee sector. A key feature is the MARKUP Coffee Trading and Risk Management Training, organized under the EAC/ITC program, which equipped small and medium enterprises with practical knowledge on coffee pricing, risk management, record keeping, and strategic business planning.

The newsletter also showcases women-led initiatives promoting domestic coffee consumption, particularly through Zicofe Café, and shares inspiring stories of women actively engaged across the coffee value chain from farming to export and roasting. Additionally, it covers advocacy training for farmer groups in Mityana, diversification strategies such as coffee farming integrated with beekeeping, and Uganda’s growing international trade engagement, including agreements with the Yunnan International Coffee Exchange.

Overall, the issue emphasizes entrepreneurship, strategic trade knowledge, advocacy, diversification, and women’s leadership as key drivers for sustainable growth in Uganda’s coffee industry.
