FINAL REPORT ON COFFEE- women issues
Overview
This issue focuses on the IWCA Uganda Chapter’s mission since its 2010 founding to tackle gender inequalities in Uganda’s coffee sector. Supported by the AWDF, the Chapter implemented a project promoting women’s equitable and inclusive participation in coffee value chain decision-making, with a focus on Kampala.
A baseline assessment revealed key challenges, including limited female leadership, low awareness of gender-sensitive laws, domestic violence, and few gender-specific policies. Recommended actions include research and documentation, advocacy for inclusive laws, financial literacy training, and public awareness campaigns.
The project seeks to strengthen women’s participation, build networks, engage duty bearers, and mainstream gender in policies, fostering equitable growth in Uganda’s coffee industry.
